Bail Questions & Answers
Answers to common questions we hear about bail bonds.
What exactly is bail?
Traditionally, bail is some form of property deposited or pledged to a court to persuade it to release a suspect from jail, on the understanding that the suspect will return for trial or forfeit the bail (and possibly be brought up on charges of the crime of failure to appear). The bail amount needed is 10% of the total bail amount set by the court system, paid to the bail agent or agency.
What is a bondsperson?
A bail bondsman, bail bond agent or bond dealer is any person, agency or corporation that will act as a surety and pledge money or property as bail for the appearance of persons accused in court.
